Library Journal recognizes Boulder Public Library with four-star rating

Boulder Public Library has been named a four-star public library by Library Journal, one of the nation’s premiere professional publications. Boulder Public Library is one of only seven public libraries in Colorado to receive a star rating.

Out of 159 public libraries with a budget range between $5-9.9 million annually, Boulder Public Library was named one of 10 libraries to receive a four-star rating.
According to Library Journal, the index rates 7,115 public libraries according to four measures of public service: circulation per capita, visits per capita, program attendance per capita, and public Internet uses per capita based on 2006 data collected by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and published in late 2008. The top libraries in each category, organized by ranges of operating expenditures, were then assigned five, four, or three stars. A total of 256 libraries received star ratings.
“This national recognition is directly attributable to the dedicated work of the Boulder Public Library staff, as well as a very supportive and educated community,” said Library and Arts Director Tony Tallent.
