The Boulder Public Library thanks the community for voting ‘Yes’ on ballot item 2A in the 2011 election! Bond funding from approval of that ballot measure will enable critical renovations and improvements to the Main Library, including:
- New Children’s Library to be located in the area near and including the Boulder Creek Room
- New Teen Space
- Improved access and browsing area for fiction, movies and music collections near the main entrance on Arapahoe Ave.
- Watch the library project overview video.
To minimize disruption of library services and make efficient use of tax dollars, the following replacement projects funded through the 2011 Capital Improvement Program will be planned and completed in conjunction with those listed above:
- Replacement of the carpet and obsolete in-slab, flat-wire, electrical system
- Replacement of the clerestory windows along the ceiling of the second floor, due to leaks.
Completion of these projects will allow the Library to address a number of the goals in the 2007 Library Master Plan. A comprehensive Facilities Sustainability Study, completed in 2009, presents justification and concepts for the renovation projects listed above as well as a number of other capital projects important for the Library to continue to support its mission.

January 28, 2012 Library Commission Tour
Special Library Commission meeting / field trip of 5 libraries along the Front Range
As a result of the success of Boulder’s 2011 ballot issue 2A, the Boulder Public Library will receive funds to renovate the children’s and teen areas of the Main Library. The purpose of this field trip was to help the Library staff, Library Commission, and the Boulder Teen Advisory Board begin to plan these spaces by visiting and learning about recent innovations in children’s and teen areas at other local libraries. Watch the slideshow of the features we liked best.
